Andrea Reimer Announces City Council Bid

Vancouver, British Columbia – Andrea Reimer announced her intention today to seek a Vision Vancouver nomination for city council. Reimer served as an elected school trustee from 2002 to 2005, the first in Canada to be elected under the Green Party banner, and was a co-chair of Gregor Robertson’s successful campaign to win a Vision Vancouver nomination to run for mayor in the upcoming municipal election.

Said Reimer, "I love Vancouver – it is a city of amazing people, diverse neighbourhoods and incredible natural beauty. But as we've moved into a new century, new challenges have faced Vancouver. Our inability to meet those challenges is increasingly making Vancouver a city of stark contrasts."

Continued Reimer, "Growing up in a family that rose from poverty, I was taught that if you can dream a better world, you can create it through hard work. Along the way, I've found that strong leadership is an essential ingredient for change. That is why I supported Gregor's recent nomination campaign and why I am now seeking a council nomination."

Reimer is also the current Executive Director of the Wilderness Committee and a director of many Vancouver-based non-profit organizations. "In all my work, my goal is always to use my experience and relationships to bring together broad community support behind big ideas. That’s what I would bring to city council and why Vision Vancouver is a comfortable home for me, as it is for the thousands of others from diverse backgrounds who came together to support Gregor's message of positive, people-powered change."

Along with her announcement today, Reimer launched a campaign web site and three "Big Ideas" for Vancouver: The Greenest City of Earth, A City of Compassion and Opportunity and A City of Strong Communities. The campaign web site is at www.andreareimer.ca.

Reimer will be hosting a campaign event for supporters next Thursday, July 24 at 2:00 pm in the public section of the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Garden.
