Andrea Reimer and Kerry Jang announce joint bid to run for Vancouver City Council

Vancouver, British Columbia – Today Andrea Reimer and Kerry Jang are announcing their joint bid to run for Vancouver City Council under the Vision Vancouver banner. Both Jang and Reimer will be seeking nominations to run as candidates for Vision Vancouver in the next municipal election. Vision Vancouver will hold its nomination meeting on September 20th.

“Vision Vancouver mayoral nominee Gregor Robertson has identified two key priorities For Vancouver. The first was to make this one of the world’s greenest and most sustainable cities; the second was to break the cycle of homelessness, addiction, and mental illness,” said Reimer. “Kerry and I have spent years working on these issues and we both want to help Gregor bring lasting change to Vancouver.”

“Both Andrea and myself have worked hard to identify real solutions to the problems facing our city. That’s why we have joined forces to run together for City Council,” said Kerry Jang. “As a team, we have the skills, expertise, and experience needed to achieve the goals Gregor has put forward.”

Andrea Reimer is highly respected in the community and is the Executive Director of the Wilderness Committee, and a former elected School Board Trustee in Vancouver. Andrea has been working on issues that have a direct impact on our lives in Vancouver, including sustainable and ethical development, urban sprawl, climate change, and solutions for dealing with garbage and waste.

Kerry Jang is a Professor of Psychiatry at UBC and has spent many years promoting community mental health across Vancouver. His work to develop programs to address homelessness, mental illness and its prevention has been recognized with several awards, as was his research on the causes of mental illness. He is an advisory board member to the Mental Health Commission of Canada, which will have a pivotal role in shaping public policy for mental health issues across Vancouver and the nation.

Over the coming weeks, Jang and Reimer will be speaking out on their ideas and proposing some solutions for Vancouver. Both candidates will also be working to bring people together from the city’s many diverse neighborhoods in support of solutions that will work for everyone.

Reimer and Jang are hosting a campaign event for supporters today, July 24th at 2:00 pm in the public section of the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Garden. High resolution press photos and biographical information for both Jang and Reimer are available on their websites (www.kerryjang.ca and www.andreareimer.ca)
